Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the production version of the all-new EQA electric vehicle. Unlike the 2017 concept, which was a three-door hatchback, the commercial model turned out to be a five-door crossover, in fact, analogous to the petrol-powered Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Dimensions Mercedes-Benz EQA - 4463x1834x1620 mm, wheelbase - 2729 mm. It is slightly longer and taller than its co-platform with an internal combustion engine, but does not differ from it in width and distance between the axes. The trunk holds from 340 to 1320 liters of cargo (according to the European VDA system). Its curb weight is 2040 kg.

The compact SUV made its debut in the uncontested version of the EQA 250. The only 190 hp asynchronous electric motor. and 375 Nm is installed on the front axle. It is powered by a 420-volt lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 66.5 kilowatt-hours, which consists of 200 cells, combined in five modules. The on-board AC charger allows you to fill the battery at 11 kW, and from the DC column, the charging power reaches up to 100 kW. In the first case, charging from 10 to 100% takes 5 hours and 45 minutes, and in the second, from 10% to 80%, it takes 30 minutes.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 develops 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds and can accelerate to a maximum of 160 km / h. The estimated range according to the NEDC cycle is 486 kilometers, according to the modern and more accurate WLTP method - 426 kilometers.

The exterior design of the EQA with a blank front panel and full-width LED lighting technology at the front and rear is made in the characteristic style already familiar to us from the serial EQC crossover and a number of concepts of the Mercedes-EQ electric vehicle sub-brand. The rear platform for the license plate has been moved from the fifth door to the bumper. The drag coefficient (Cd) is 0.28 - the same as the Volkswagen ID.4.

The interior is similar to the GLA, but with its own screensavers and menus, specific to the electric car. The digital driver's interface consists of two combined screens, the size of which, depending on the level of equipment, is 7 or 10.25 inches. There is a special Electric Intelligence navigation system that will help the driver to plan the best routes, taking into account the location of charging stations, charging time, weather and traffic. An original decorative insert was made on the passenger side of the front panel. Plus, for the first time on the cars of the brand, decor with interior lighting appeared. The Mercedes me Charge service gives car owners access to 450,000 AC and DC charging points in 31 countries, including 175,000 public charging points in Europe, where Mercedes-Benz guarantees the filling of the battery with "green energy" (generated from renewable sources ). The motor is equipped with a simple gearbox. The battery is located under the floor, so the machine has a fairly low center of gravity. The baby has a MacPherson rack in front, and a multi-link in the back. The standard equipment of the electric car includes adaptive LED headlights with the function of automatic switching from high beam to low beam, an electric drive of the fifth door (open / close), an MBUX infotainment system with a navigator and a rearview camera, 18-inch alloy wheels, 64-color ambient lighting and a heat pump to minimize the cost of heating the passenger compartment. Seven airbags (including a knee airbag for the driver), auto-braking and lane-keeping are also standard. Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the panoramic roof can be seen in the vehicle, as well as the electric vehicle-specific decorative elements in rose gold color on the ventilation deflectors, seats and the key.

In addition to the basic exterior design, the Electric Art and AMG Line versions are available. In addition, there will be a separate Night Package and a special Edition 1, dedicated to the launch of sales, with special alloy wheels with a diameter of 20 inches (standard 18 inches). In Europe, the new Mercedes-Benz EQA went on sale in February 2021. Price in Germany - 47540 EUR including 19% tax. German buyers can look forward to an “environmental bonus” of 6,000 EUR from the federal government, with a further 3,000 EUR offered by the manufacturer.

Cars are produced at a plant in German Rastatt, where they make A-class, B-class and GLA Mercedes, and they will also launch production at a local plant in Beijing especially for the Chinese market.

The company promises to introduce more powerful versions of the EQA in the near future, with an output of over 200 kW, including all-wheel drive variants with a separate eATS electric motor on the rear axle. In addition to them, a modification will be released with a power reserve on a single charge of more than 500 km according to the WLTP standard. We add that the EQA model is the first of four new cars of the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand, scheduled for release in 2021.
